...of IOS 4.1 release, there have been many questions about whether or not resolved to update iPhone 4 proximity sensor issue once and for all. From my own experience, I had no complaints of this software update made public.
...Some of you May be wondering, "What in the world is a proximity sensor and what function it serves?" Without getting too involved, any iPhone (including the original iPhone 2G, 3G and 3G models) have a proximity sensor. This sensor emits an infrared (IR) light that detects the presence of a solid object (such as head or hand), until you have a call in progress, or while listening to voice mail. When it detects a solid object, turns your iPhone LCD screen off. It is the function you will never miss as long as it does not work.

...In the four years that I fix the iPhone, it is only recently that I began experiencing problems that have been widely documented and reported. Since the release of IOS 4.1, I have not seen any cases in which the iPhone proximity sensor display on the phone that is not modified. When I say "change" I think a phone that has undergone color conversion, or one that the front glass and the LCD was replaced because the phone was dropped and broken glass are original. I noticed that the phenomenon was more clearly after the color conversion was performed.
...1.Jedinstven sensitivity of each iPhone proximity sensor.
Second The cover sensor proximity to some of the replacement glass is not tinted as dark. This allows too much light to pass.
I have read through numerous articles and blogs to suggest that the use of black tape with holes punched, or black magic marker to cover the iPhone proximity sensor. I do not feel that any of these fixes offered a solution, or even one that I will be proud to employ in their practice.
After talking with their parts distributor, I found the best solution for this problem is cheap "sensor coverage." This cover is a small piece of film with a coating that seems to be the same red coat on some polarized sunglasses. This little piece of film was installed on top of the iPhone proximity sensor.
